CNSuperpower Guide Change Hydraulic Log splitter FluidCNSuperpower Guide: A Log Splitter with a piston that pushes wood onto a blade needs hydraulic fluid to move the piston. Log splitter also use oil, which lubricates the engine. You should change both fluids regularly to keep the unit in good running condition.
Change Hydraulic Fluid
Place the log splitter on a pair of sawhorses to raise it off of the ground.
Place a bucket under the drain plug for the hydraulic fluid reservoir.
Remove the hydraulic fluid fill tube cap.
Unscrew the drain plug and let the hydraulic fluid drain into a bucket. Replace the drain plug once the fluid has drained from the reservoir.
Place a funnel in the fill tube and add 1 1/2 gallons of 10W-AW hydraulic fluid to the reservoir.
Remove the funnel and check the level of the hydraulic fluid with the dipstick on the hydraulic fluid fill tube cap.
Change Engine Oil
Place a drain pan under the drain plug for the oil reservoir.
